We’re ready to take on ‘arrogant’ Amanah, says Johor Umno man
PETALING JAYA: A Johor Umno leader says the state chapter is ready to take on Amanah at the polls, after the Pakatan Harapan component party announced its intention to contest up to 20 seats in the next state election.
Johor Umno secretary Abdul Halim Suleiman said Amanah needed to realise it was fortunate to even win two parliamentary seats during the 2022 general election, and one state seat in the March 2022 state election.
He said the wins were due to DAP’s strength in Johor rather than its own.
“I would like to advise Johor Amanah not to be arrogant because they are only depending on DAP’s sympathy in PH but are acting as though they are champions.
“Umno has no problem going to war with Amanah in the next state election or 16th general election, but now is not the time for politicking,” he said in a statement.

Yesterday, Johor Amanah deputy chief Dzulkefly Ahmad said the state chapter wanted to vie for 12 to 20 state seats out of disgruntlement with Barisan Nasional’s refusal to form a unity Johor government.
BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi ticked off Dzulkefly for politicking, saying Amanah should focus on serving the people as the state would not be holding elections anytime soon.
Halim claimed that Johor Amanah was merely chasing after posts in the state government though its elected representatives in the state were not performing.
The Johor government was formed by BN following its landslide win in the March 2022 state election. BN holds 40 seats in the 56-seat state assembly. PH has 12 seats, while PN has four.
However, despite support from 12 PH assemblymen, the state government remains solely under the control of BN.
Johor Amanah has repeatedly called for a unity government to be formed in the state but this had been rejected by menteri besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
Last month, DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook urged his PH allies to stop making calls for Johor to have a unity government similar to other states.
