Report contract award allegations to MACC, Pasir Putih MP told

KUALA LUMPUR: Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul has advised a Perikatan Nasional MP today to formally report allegations of improper government contract awards involving a fellow MP to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

This came after Nik Zawawi Salleh (PN-Pasir Putih) accused Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (PN-Bukit Gantang) in the Dewan Rakyat today of receiving preferential treatment in securing a food supply contract for the armed forces.

Zawawi alleged that Syed Hussin’s support for the government influenced the award of the contract, favouring the Bukit Gantang MP’s company over established suppliers like D’Saji.

“Back then, he criticised (the prime minister), but now that he is under his (Anwar Ibrahim’s) wing, he supports everything,” he said when debating the Supply Bill 2025.

As such, Zawawi called on the government to review the dealings with Syed Hussin’s company.

Syed Hussin is among six now former Bersatu MPs who pledged their support for Anwar last year.

In response, Taufiq Johari (PH-Sungai Petani) questioned the validity of Zawawi’s claim and suggested that he retract them if he lacked solid evidence.

Zawawi, however, insisted that he was not making baseless accusations, claiming to possess WhatsApp messages exchanged between Syed Hussin and a government official.

This led to Johari intervening and advising Zawawi to take the matter to the MACC rather than discussing it in Parliament.

“Bringing this up here in the Dewan is not gentlemanly. Bring it up to MACC,” Johari said.

Zawawi then replied: “God willing, someone will.”
