PETALING: The RM15 million allocated to the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) in the 2025 budget cannot be spent arbitrarily or used for salary payments, said youth and sports minister Hannah Yeoh.
She said the sum should be used to develop the national senior team, the Under-18 team, and Under-13 team, adding that her ministry and the finance ministry will monitor the use of the funds.
“It is for FAM to spend on coaches to strengthen the national team and the junior team.”
She was speaking to reporters after the 19th Youth and Sports Skills Training Institute’s convocation ceremony at the Bangi Avenue Convention Centre today.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, when tabling the 2025 budget yesterday, announced an allocation of RM15 million to FAM to support the development of national football.
He said the sum should be used to develop the national and junior football teams, as well as to secure top coaches, provide high-quality training and offer players appropriate rewards.
More than RM230 million was also allocated to cover the elite Podium Programme, athletes’ training, and the Road to Gold initiative. This includes para athletes’ preparations ahead of major events.
“We don’t want to depend on only a few athletes, so we need to expand at the grassroots level.
“We already have a sports development committee at the MSN level that has started looking into this,” she said.
