Wan Saiful denies ‘hijacking’ Guan Eng’s constituency allocation
Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan said opposition MPs are doing their best to serve their constituencies despite being denied allocations by the government.

PETALING JAYA: Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan has shot down Lim Guan Eng’s claim that a RM1.4 million allocation meant for his Bagan electorate had been “hijacked” and given to the constituency held by the opposition.

In a Facebook post, Wan Saiful said the disputed funds belong to taxpayers and do not belong exclusively to any political party or constituency.

“I want to remind Lim not to be arrogant while holding the temporary power he has now,” he said.

“Is he saying that the development funds are only for the government-held seats while Perikatan Nasional’s areas are to be left out?” he said on Facebook.

Yesterday, Lim told FMT that RM1.4 million from a RM5.6 million allocation for roadworks between Butterworth and Kepala Batas had been “hijacked” by the Tasek Gelugor constituency.

The former Penang chief minister claimed this was the second time funds intended for Bagan had been channelled to the other constituency.

In response, Penang’s state executive councillor for infrastructure Zairil Khir Johari called the issue “a small matter which had been resolved”.

However, Lim said he was waiting for a final resolution and was prepared to take up the matter with the works minister if necessary.
