PETALING JAYA: Anwar Ibrahim says he has chosen not to respond to the many attacks against him by Mohamed Azmin Ali as he does not want to take things personally.
“I am not taking it personally. As you can see, I have not been responding to his relentless attacks on me,” he told Mingguan Malaysia in an interview published today.
“The people are clever enough to assess the actions of senior minister and international trade and industry minister Azmin Ali.”
He said his focus now was totally on the party’s political battles, which need a lot of attention.
“Let the rakyat mete out the punishment (against erring politicians). For me, it’s best we return to the right path.
“It is better for us to focus on helping the people because we cannot fool them; they can evaluate us.”
Anwar said he had studied the political movement of several quarters while doing his time in prison, including his own performance.
“I admit my failure to control the party because I was still in prison. During that time, those outside had built up their strength and accumulated wealth.
“When Pakatan Harapan was ruling, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) failed to act against others as their focus was only on Umno and 1MDB.
“So they missed seeing the elephant in the room.”
Anwar said the people knew that ministers were accumulating wealth through mega projects and were spending luxuriously, adding that this was against the principles of PKR and PH.
“As for me, he (Azmin) has chosen, so let it be. We will focus our energy on strengthening our party and learn from our experiences.
“Don’t trust people who are fond of making promises and are full of pretences.”
