UiTM virtual volunteering channels aid to B40, OKU
Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Melaka has raised RM30,093 to help over 400 recipients under the COVID-19 Prihatin Assistance programme.
UiTM Melaka student affairs deputy rector, Datuk Dr Mohd Nor Hasrol Jono, said in a statement today that fundraising was carried out by the Co-curricular Unit and Faculty of Communications and Media Studies.
He said the programme in partnership with the Suspended Meal non-governmental organisation (NGO) was in aid of the B40 group and people with disabilities (OKU) affected by the pandemic.
He said contributions were also received via the COVID-19 Prihatin Assistance Virtual Volunteering programme held in conjunction with (International) Volunteer Day recently for distribution to recipients in Kuala Lumpur, Melaka and Sabah this month.
“Students getting involved as volunteers in this programme will help with network-building with NGOs and the community, while at the same time create a positive image for themselves,” said Mohd Nor.
He said the main objective of the programme was to hand out kits containing mask, sanitiser, anti-bacterial soap and basic foodstuff.
Suspended Meal founder, Shafezah Abdul Wahab, said the community programme is continuous and according to new norms.
She said that virtual volunteering allows everything from preparation to purchase and delivery to be done online. BERNAMA
