Tekun helped 40,000 entrepreneurs since MCO, says Wan Junaidi
More than 40,000 entrepreneurs have received financing from the National Entrepreneurial Group Economic Fund (Tekun), keeping their businesses afloat since the Movement Control Order was enforced in March.
Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said 43,206 entrepreneurs in various business sectors had received financing from Tekun worth a total RM451.36 million from March till Oct 18.
“The ministry is aware that the Covid-19 outbreak had affected micro and informal businesses, especially hawkers and small-time entrepreneurs.
“The ministry has executed various aid to hawkers and small businesses through implementing agencies under the ministry including Tekun Nasional, SME Corp, SME Bank, and Bank Rakyat,” he told the Dewan Rakyat today.
He said this in response to a question by Sabri Azit (Pas-Jerai), who had asked the minister to state the amount of aid provided to assist hawkers during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Tekun Nasional, Wan Junaidi added, had received RM300 million from the government through the Penjana and Prihatin economic stimulus packages.
He said these packages were channelled as easy financing to business owners affected by the pandemic through the Covid Business Recovery-Micro programme and the Tekun Business Recovery Scheme. Nst
