Boy, 5, allegedly gang raped in brutal attack on Cape York beach

Three boys, all under the age of 14, will be dealt with by Queensland Police after allegedly raping a five-year-old boy in a remote Queensland community.

Queensland Police confirmed the three boys, aged between 10 and 13, will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act after the alleged brutal rape.

Police said the incident had occurred on a beach at Napranum, a remote Indigenous community, just after 7pm on July 1.

Napranum is a small community located on the west coast of the Cape York peninsula, around 10 hours north of Cairns.

Sources told The Australianthe three alleged offenders had been removed from the remote community amid threats of retribution.

“There are big arguments about how this happened,” the source said.

“It is creating big problems in the town. At least one was taken out of the community. It is not the first time something like this has happened.’’

It’s understood the five-year-old was flown from Napranum to Cairns for medical treatment.

Napranum mayor Janita Motton told The Australian she hadn’t been told about the alleged rape and was disappointed Queensland Police hadn’t informed her.

“I am shocked, I haven’t been told by police, and can’t comment,’’ Ms Motton said.

None of the boys have been formally charged or put in custody.

The age of criminal responsibility in Queensland is 10 however children between 10 and 13 can only be found guilty if lawyers are able to prove they are mentally aware they knew what they were doing was wrong.
