Two brothers plead guilty to obstructing policemen while drunk, fined RM3k each
Two brothers who were drunk and refused to obey instructions from policemen on duty on the second day of Hari Raya, pleaded guilty at the Magistrate’s Court here to voluntarily obstructing a public servant from discharging his duties.
S. Guna Singam, 36, and S. Rajeshwaran, 34, were fined RM3,000 each, in default five months’ jail by Magistrate Siti Huzaifah Abdul Talib.
They were charged under Section 186 of the Penal Code which provides a jail term of up to two years, or a fine not exceeding RM10,000, or both.
A police team conducting an operation at KM10 of Jalan Pantai at 9.10pm on May 25 decided to follow a Proton Persona when they saw its two occupants shouting and behaving inappropriately.
They tailed the vehicle until the Bandar Sunggala roundabout and ordered the driver to stop, but were ignored.
However, the cops managed to stop the suspects about 2km away, near Taman Bandar Sunggala.
Both suspects then began provoking the policemen by raising their voice and hitting the roof of their own car with their hands.
They also refused to hand over their MyKad, although they were asked several times.
The brothers, who had criminal records for previous drug-related and criminal offences, were eventually arrested.
Both paid the fine after they were sentenced.
