MACC quizzes Bersatu’s Adam Radlan over MEX II highway project probe

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has recorded a statement from Segambut Bersatu deputy chief Adam Radlan Adam Muhammad in its investigation into the MEX II highway project.
The commission had tracked Adam Radlan down to the United Kingdom and persuaded him to return to Malaysia.
Sources told the New Straits Times Adam Radlan returned in mid-December and turned up at the MACC headquarters on Dec 18 to record his statement.
MACC Investigation Division senior director Datuk Zainul Darus confirmed the matter.
“Investigations are ongoing under the MACC Act and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act (AMLA),” he said.
In August, Adam Radlan was acquitted of 12 corruption and money laundering charges linked to the Jana Wibawa scheme, which was meant to help Bumiputera contractors during the Covid-19 pandemic.
On Nov 15, MACC said it was seeking Adam Radlan’s help in its MEX II probe.
MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki later said Adam had given his assurance that he would cooperate.
On Sept 8, Maju Holdings Sdn Bhd director Tan Sri Abu Sahid Mohamed claimed trial at the Sessions Court to four charges of criminal breach of trust involving RM313 million, and 13 counts of money laundering amounting to RM139 million, in connection with the MEX II highway.
In early October, a Datuk and three associates were fined RM100,000 each after they pleaded guilty to charges of failing to report being offered bribes of between RM500,000 and RM3.5 million between June 2017 and June 2018 in connection with the highway project.
