Pas to meet tomorrow over Perlis MB leadership crisis

ARAU: Pas will hold a meeting in the federal capital tomorrow to discuss the leadership crisis involving Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli.

Shukri is alleged to have lost the majority support and confidence of state assemblymen.

The meeting, scheduled to take place at the Pas headquarters in Jalan Raja Laut, was confirmed by Perlis Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim.

Shahidan, who is also Perlis Pas deputy commissioner III, however, denied there was any organised movement within PN to oust the menteri besar.

“I do not see any specific pact being made, and I feel there is no such movement being carried out. However, it is possible they were called individually to sign statutory declarations (SD), he said.

“Whatever the concern is, it will depend on the party’s decision. We leave it to the PAS central leadership. Names from both parties will be presented to the Raja of Perlis for a final determination.”

He was speaking to reporters after attending a Yayasan Fawwaz education fund contribution ceremony at the Arau member of parliament’s service centre in Kubang Gajah today.

The crisis follows claims that several assemblymen from Pas and Bersatu submitted SDs to the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail, last Friday, stating they no longer supported Shukri’s leadership.

Shahidan said he had been monitoring developments closely while in Bangkok, Thailand, for the Sea Games.

“I have just returned, and I received information on what is happening in Perlis through social media. We cannot deny that something is happening, but let the Pas, Bersatu and PN central leaderships refine the matter and make a decision.

“I believe this crisis can be resolved through discussions like brothers next week. There should be no element of fighting or bickering within the coalition,” he added.
