PETALING JAYA: Amanah deputy president Mujahid Yusof Rawa has called on Malaysians to use Ramadan as a time for self-restraint, saying all parties should refrain from political, racial and religious slander that fuels division and hostility.
Mujahid said Malaysia’s political landscape is often shaken by contentious issues, many of which stem from slander and manipulative tactics.
“Fasting is not merely about refraining from food and drink; we must also guard our tongues against slander and prevent our hearts from being consumed by resentment and hatred,” he said in a statement today.
“Let our iftar gatherings serve as a means to strengthen bonds, embracing the spirit of ‘Rahmah’ (compassion) beyond political and societal divides.”
The former Islamic affairs minister also reminded Muslims that Ramadan is the month of the Quran, a divine guide that distinguishes between truth and falsehood.

“In a world clouded by slander and misinformation, Ramadan serves as a guiding light, offering hope for us to break free from this vicious cycle,” he said.
The sighting of the new moon for the start of Ramadan in Malaysia will take place today.
