GEORGE TOWN: Chow Kon Yeow said a leadership post in DAP is important to his remaining tenure as chief minister, in explaining his change of mind after bowing out of the state party election last year.

Chow, who on Sunday confirmed that he would contest for a spot in the upcoming DAP central executive committee polls, said if he kept to his decision to opt out of the polls, he would become just an ordinary member.

“As chief minister, I think having a position in the party is important as it means I would be part of the DAP leadership,” he told reporters at Komtar today.

Chow, a CEC member and one of DAP’s vice-chairmen, did not defend his Penang DAP chairman’s post in the state party election last September.

He had said there were a lot of challenges ahead and that he wanted to focus on the next three years, before his tenure as the chief minister ends in 2028.

“I want to implement or complete as many major projects as I can in these three years,” he said.

Apart from Chow, others from Penang who will be vying for a seat in the CEC are Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh and former Batu Kawan MP Kasthuri Patto.
