Man killed after car sideswipes trailer in Sungai Besar

SHAH ALAM: A car is believed to have sideswiped a trailer before veering off the road in a fatal accident at Belia 2, Jalan Sungai Panjang, Sungai Besar, yesterday.

Sabak Bernam police chief Superintendent Md Yusof Ahmad said the 1.15pm accident occurred when a Proton Iswara carrying a family of three was travelling from Sungai Panjang to Felda Gedangsa, Hulu Selangor.

“The car suddenly sideswiped a trailer, whose registration number and type could not be identified, in the middle of the road.

“As a result, the Iswara lost control before veering to the left side of the road, hitting a guardrail and overturning,” he said when contacted last night.

The driver, a 48-year-old man, was trapped in the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

“The victim’s wife, 36, who was in the front passenger seat, suffered a fractured shoulder and right leg, and was sent to Hospital Sabak Bernam for treatment.

“The couple’s two-year-old sustained minor facial injuries,” he said.

Md Yusof said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He added that efforts to locate the trailer driver are ongoing, and members of the public with information are urged to come forward to assist in the investigation.
