Ungazetted road near Kuchai Business Park to be closed over dumping, abandoned vehicles

KUALA LUMPUR: An ungazetted road beside Kuchai Business Park will be closed starting March 27 following complaints of illegal dumping and abandoned vehicles in the area.

Seputeh member of parliament Teresa Kok said the decision followed concerns from business owners and local management over cleanliness and safety.

The road has yet to be gazetted and handed over to Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), allowing it to be misused for illegal dumping and abandoned vehicles.

The problem has persisted for about nine months despite several clean-up operations by DBKL and the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp).

Kok spoke at a press conference with representatives from BS Management Sdn Bhd of Kuchai Business Park, DBKL Seputeh enforcement officers and SWCorp.

DBKL said 19 abandoned vehicles were previously found at the site, but the number has been reduced to six after notices were issued to the owners to remove their cars.

SWCorp said cleaning operations were carried out twice, but rubbish continued to appear, believed to be dumped mostly at night.

BS Management Sdn Bhd representatives said motorists began using the road for free parking instead of the paid basement lots, causing obstruction and hygiene issues.

Barriers will be installed to block all entry points once the road is closed, and monitoring will be increased to prevent further dumping.

The closure is expected to be long-term, although DBKL may reopen the road in future if it is officially developed and gazetted as a public road.
