JDT fined US$6,125 after Sanfrecce match

KUALA LUMPUR: Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) have been fined US$6,125 (RM24,000) by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) after collecting six bookings in an AFC Champions League Elite (ACLE) match.

The sanction was imposed by the AFC Ethics and Disciplinary Committee following JDT’s accumulation of one red card and five yellow cards — during their ACLE East Zone league-stage clash against Sanfrecce Hiroshima at the Hiroshima Stadium on Feb 10.

The match, officiated by Chinese referee Ma Ning, saw defender Jonathan Silva sent off in the first half for a deliberate hand ball, while Joao Figueiredo, Oscar Arribas, Bergson Da Silva, Rui Filipe Cunha Correia and coach Xisco Munoz were shown the yellow card.

The 10-man JDT team went on to lose the match 2-1 to Sanfrecce, although the Southern Tigers advanced 3-2 on aggregate in the round of 16.

JDT were also fined by AFC in May last year for supporter misconduct during a round of 16 clash against Buriram United, when objects were thrown onto the pitch, resulting in a total fine of US$24,000 (RM103,000) for multiple violations of disciplinary regulations.
