Sabah Umno open to return of former members

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Umno is open to accepting the return of former members, particularly members of parliament or assemblymen, who were previously sacked, suspended or who had left the party.

Its liaison committee chairman Datuk Jafry Ariffin said the move is in line with an initiative set by the party’s leadership during the recent Umno general assembly.

He said Sabah Umno supported the Rumah Bangsa initiative, which seeks to reopen the party’s doors to former members, including those who were suspended or who had left the party.

“We are indeed open, but there must be an application, and we believe there will be no issue in accepting them back.

“What is important is that those who intend to return must once again identify themselves as supporters of Umno and also Barisan Nasional.

“In Sabah, Umno is part of the government and the political situation here is stable. There is no need for disputes or conflicts,” he told the media after the Sabah Umno liaison committee’s Ramadan breaking-fast event here today.

Meanwhile, Jafry said former members in Sabah were welcome to submit applications to rejoin the party in accordance with the required procedures.

“This matter will not become a reality if only one side takes action, so there must be an application and the necessary process.

“This means that suspended members must submit an application expressing their intention to return, and only then will we process it. That is the procedure.

“We have a committee that has been formed to determine the readmission of members, chaired by Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, and he will make the final decision,” he said.
