10 injured as express bus en route to Johor overturns

JOHOR BARU: Ten people had a close shave when the express bus they were travelling in skidded and overturned by the roadside near Kampung Sepakat Baru in Batu 11, shortly after the Skudai Toll Plaza exit today.

Those injured in the accident involving the bus, which was on its way from Kuala Lumpur to Johor, were the driver and nine passengers.

It is learnt that the driver lost control of the vehicle before it skidded and landed on its side.

The Johor Fire and Rescue Department operations centre said a team from the Skudai fire and rescue station was deployed to the scene after the department received a distress call about 8.20pm.

“The accident involved a total of 10 people, including the bus driver.

“Two passengers were found pinned inside the bus. Firefighters utilised specialised rescue equipment to extricate them,” the department said in a statement.

The department added that another victim who was also trapped was rescued by members of the public before firefighters arrived.

“The bus driver and two other passengers sustained injuries but were not pinned, while four others escaped with minor injuries.

“All victims received initial medical treatment at the scene before they were rushed to the hospital,” the department said, adding that the rescue operation concluded at 9.14pm.
