No SOP review needed after Meru police station scuffle – Saifuddin

MELAKA: There is no need to review or revise police station security SOPs following a scuffle between two groups at Meru police station, which was widely shared on social media, says Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

He said the incident was isolated and should not be used as a basis to question or reassess existing security SOPs.

He added that the situation began when one group arrived at the station to lodge a report regarding a dispute outside.

Saifuddin said officers on duty managed the situation in accordance with their responsibilities to ensure the safety of all parties and maintain order at the station.

However, he said the other group reportedly followed them into the station and attempted to prevent the report from being made, triggering the commotion.

“Contrary to some social media posts claiming that a group of men attacked the station, the truth is that two groups fought outside, and during the scuffle, one party entered the station to make a report while the other entered to obstruct it,” he said after attending the Values Integration and Iftar Ceremony at the Home Ministry Complex in Ayer Keroh today.

Saifuddin criticised irresponsible individuals for spreading inaccurate information about the incident, which caused unnecessary public concern.

“There is no issue with police station safety or SOPs. This is an isolated case. We have the IGPSO (Inspector-General of Police Standing Orders), so all our police stations operate under official directives.

“We cannot assume that one incident reflects the overall situation,” he added.
