West Port haul: RM2 mil in unauthorised animal goods seized

SHAH ALAM: Seven containers carrying animal-based products worth nearly RM2 million were seized during an operation at West Port, Port Klang, yesterday.
Port Klang Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA) commander Datuk Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said the goods were confiscated after they were believed to have been brought in without valid import permits from the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (Maqis).
“In the operation conducted between 11am and 2pm at the CFS 4 Container Examination Centre at West Port, seven containers were found carrying UHT milk, frozen duck and milk powder.
“The total estimated value of the seizure is RM1,917,292.54, involving a combined weight of 159,157.93 kilogrammes.
“All the animal products originated from New Zealand and Ireland,” he said in a statement today.

Nik Ezanee said the goods were seized to prevent the risk of animal disease entering the country and to safeguard food safety and public health.
n a separate case, he said two containers carrying electronic waste (e-waste) were detected following physical inspections of six containers at West Port at about 9am yesterday.
