‘Umno not our main option,’ says sacked Bersatu leader

KUALA LUMPUR: A former Bersatu leader who was sacked from the party along with Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin and 15 others said the group is still weighing its options over its political future.
Former Bersatu supreme council member Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal said the group has yet to meet to decide its next course of action following their recent sacking.
“Nothing has been initiated and no meeting has been held.
“And with the Chinese New Year celebrations, people are busy (focusing on the festive celebration).
“So, let’s wait and see,” the Machang member of parliament told the New Straits Times.

He was responding to rumours that Hamzah and several others who were sacked were keen to join Umno.
Sources told the NST that Hamzah had been considering a return to his former party for some time and had held talks with Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi last year.
Another source said that if Hamzah returns to Umno, it is unlikely he would be alone, with several of those recently sacked from Bersatu also reportedly keen to join the party.
Commenting on the speculation, Wan Ahmad Fayhsal said no decision had been made.
“No. Nothing has been decided. And I do not think Umno will be the main choice.

“There are a few options, as what the rumours have been suggesting.
“It is too early. (Whatever happens) Hamzah also needs to consult first,” he said.
Earlier this week, 17 Bersatu leaders, including Hamzah, who is also the Larut MP, were sacked by the party over disciplinary violations.
Apart from Wan Fayhsal, others sacked included Padang Rengas MP Azahari Hasan (Padang Rengas) and Fathul Huzir Ayob (Gerik).
