Body cut into seven pieces in Kota Kinabalu: Cops arrest suspect, 70

KOTA KINABALU: Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the brutal murder of a woman whose body was dismembered into seven parts and discarded at several locations in Indah Permai, here, early this morning.

The male suspect, believed to be in his 70s, was apprehended in Kota Kinabalu at around 5pm during an operation carried out by personnel from the Criminal Investigation Division (D7), Kota Kinabalu district police headquarters, the Ronda Cegah Jenayah (RCJ) Luyang police station, Sabah contingent police headquarters Criminal Investigation Department, and technical support units from D8 JSJ IPK and Bukit Aman.

The arrest was made less than 24 hours after parts of the victim’s body, believed to be in her 40s, were discovered by a garbage truck worker at around 6.30am.

Police confirmed that clues obtained from the recovered head and torso led them to trace the suspect’s location before successfully apprehending him.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the motive for the killing was jealousy, which escalated into an argument between the suspect and the victim prior to the incident.

Acting Kota Kinabalu district police chief, Superintendent Syed Lot Syed Ab Rahman, confirmed the arrest when contacted.

“The local male suspect in his 70s has been located and arrested. The motive is believed to be jealousy. With the capture of this main suspect, the case has been resolved.

“However, investigations are ongoing and the case is being probed under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder,” he said.

The suspect is currently admitted to hospital for further medical examination before remand proceedings are carried out.

Earlier, the victim’s body was discovered in a dismembered state when several body parts were found at a rubbish disposal site in Taman Indah Permai.

The initial discovery involved the victim’s hands and feet near a car park adjacent to a supermarket at about 6.30am. Police subsequently launched an extensive search with assistance from garbage collection workers.

Further investigation led to the discovery of the victim’s head and torso at another rubbish disposal site near Bataras Indah Permai Supermarket at around 11.40am.

As of noon, two more body parts had yet to be recovered, and search efforts are ongoing.
