BATU GAJAH: Three people, including a three-year-old girl, were killed in a head-on collision between a car and a pickup truck along Jalan Tanjung Tualang here last night.

The deceased have been identified as Perodua Myvi driver S.R. Sarala Devi, 34, and her front-seat passenger, G. Sarasbathy Gopal, 65. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The third victim, three-year-old S. Shaastikka, was rushed to Batu Gajah Hospital by members of the public before rescuers arrived, but died while receiving treatment.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department operations chief Sabarodzie Nor Ahmad said the department received a distress call at 9.45pm.

“Upon arrival, firemen found that the accident involved a Perodua Myvi and a Toyota Hilux.

He added that firemen conducted an initial size-up, applied the SAVER concept, and used hydraulic rescue tools to extricate the victims.

“Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene and their bodies were handed over to the police for further action,” he said.

The rescue operation concluded at 11.30pm.

Meanwhile, the 27-year-old pickup truck driver sustained injuries to his limbs and knees and was taken to the same hospital for treatment.
