KUALA LUMPUR: More than 30 Bersatu assemmblymen and senior party officials gathered tonight at the Bukit Damansara residence of party president Muhyiddin Yassin, in a show of solidarity amid an escalating leadership dispute.

According to an FMT report, among those seen arriving were secretary-general Azmin Ali and vice-president Ahmad Faizal Azumu, also known as Peja. Another vice-president, Radzi Jidin, shared photos of the gathering on Facebook, describing it as a reception to mark the approach of Ramadan, which begins next week.

FMT said sources familiar with the event said that attendees included more than 20 assemblymen from various states, four members of parliament, and several Supreme Council members. Notably, representatives aligned with deputy president Hamzah Zainudin were absent.

Those present reportedly included three MPs from Kedah and one from Sarawak, as well as state assembly members from Selangor (6), Perlis (5), Kedah (2), Perak (3), Negri Sembilan (2), Pahang (2), and one each from Kelantan, Terengganu, Penang, and Johor. Bersatu currently has 83 elected representatives across state assemblies and parliament.

The purpose of the meeting was not formally disclosed. However, it comes amid an intensifying leadership feud, with mounting calls for Muhyiddin to resign as party president, countered by calls for Hamzah to step down.

The gathering follows news that Hamzah had been summoned to appear before the party’s disciplinary board over allegations that he attempted to sabotage the party’s 2025 annual general assembly and undermine its leadership.

Reports yesterday indicated that at least six other party leaders, including division chiefs and Sabah Bersatu members, have also been called to the disciplinary board on Feb 12 regarding separate incidents from 2025.
