RMAF to hold court martial in March

KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) officers allegedly involved in immoral activities at one of its bases are expected to be court-martialled early next month.
RMAF chief General Datuk Seri Muhamad Norazlan Aris told the New Straits Times that this follows the completion of the service’s investigation into the “yeye culture” of bringing in unauthorised women to a base for wild parties.
“The report has been completed. I have reviewed the report, and the RMAF’s legal department is examining the charges.
“I have been informed that the Military Court will convene in early March,” he said.
Norazlan said action would be taken against those who failed to comply with orders and regulations.

Last month, Norazlan said the investigation findings had been finalised, but the report had not yet been handed over.
He said that once it is submitted, the legal department would take necessary action.

Norazlan added that 21 individuals at the RMAF Subang base have been implicated in various offences. He said other bases and units were also investigated, but no wrongdoing has been found.
Social media posts in early January claimed military personnel were bringing in unauthorised civilians, including women, into bases for parties, drinking alcohol and other inappropriate activities.
One unverified video was reported to show women seated at a bar believed to be part of an officers’ mess.

The Defence Ministry launched an investigation into allegations that the armed forces was rife with this practice, dubbed the “yeye” culture.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said that such hedonistic activities are not a part of the military’s culture and values, which are founded on discipline, professionalism and strict adherence to security procedures.
Norazlan was also quoted as saying that he would ensure those responsible were court-martialled, adding that this conduct was not part of RMAF’s culture.
The NST, quoting sources, had reported that a colonel was among those suspected of being involved in the activities.
