Teen killed in motorcycle crash en route to school, sister injured

GUA MUSANG: A 15-year-old student tragically died this morning when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a van while en route to school on Jalan Kampung Baru, Limau Kasturi.

The victim, Amsyar Zafran Amran, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at Jeram Tekoh Health Clinic.

His 13-year-old sister, who was riding pillion, sustained injuries and was taken to Gua Musang Hospital for further care.

District police chief Superintendent Sik Choon Foo said the incident was reported to authorities at 9.05am.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the crash involved a van and the Yamaha 135LC motorcycle.

“The accident occurred when a 58-year-old van driver, en route to drop his nephew at school from Bertam to Sungai Asap, attempted to overtake a lorry ahead of him. At the same time, the motorcyclist also tried to overtake but lost control, skidding onto the unpaved shoulder on the right-hand side of the road,” he said.

“The motorcyclist fell onto the road, and the van driver was unable to stop in time, striking the motorcycle and dragging it for about 15 metres. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving causing death,” he added.
