Housewife watches in horror as elderly neighbour perishes in fire

KOTA BARU: What began as a quiet late afternoon with her family turned into a harrowing ordeal for housewife Anis Suriati Mohamed, who witnessed her elderly neighbour perish in a house fire at Jalan Tok Guru today.

Anis, 45, a mother to a 25-year-old daughter, said the incident occurred at 5.30pm while she was having tea at home.

“I suddenly heard two loud crashing sounds. At first, I thought someone was fighting,” she recalled.

Moments later, she realised the noise came from the roof of her neighbour’s house collapsing.

When Anis rushed outside, she saw the elderly woman, fondly known as Kak Zah, waving desperately from a window.
