TAWAU: Two men impersonating policemen were arrested in front of a bank in Fajar by policemen on patrol.
Tawau police chief Assistant Commissioner Jasmin Hussin said the policemen on patrol spotted the suspects in their car and searched their vehicle.
They found a green reflective vest with “PDRM” markings and a camouflage-patterned hat, believed to have been used to impersonate policemen.
A waist bag containing a transparent plastic packet with 0.10g of crystals suspected to be syabu was also found on.
“Both suspects and the seized items were taken to the Tawau police station for further action,” he said in a statement last night.

Jasmin said impersonating a police officer is a serious offence that could lead to larger crimes, including extortion and fraud, while undermining public trust in the security forces.
The duo are being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act for posession and Section 89 of the Police Act for obstructing a policeman.
Both offences are punishable by jail terms and fines.
