MACC remands two people, including a senior Navy officer, in RM2mil corruption case

KUALA LUMPUR: Two individuals, including a senior Navy officer, have been remanded by graft busters over allegations of corruption involving the appointment of a company linked to the officer for projects at his workplace.
Magistrate A. Hafiizh Abu Bakar granted a seven-day remand order until Jan 29 against the two suspects following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on Friday (Jan 23).
Sources said the suspects, a company director and the senior Navy officer in their 40s and 50s, were detained on Thursday (Jan 22) after giving statements at the MACC office in Ipoh, Perak. Initial investigations suggest the duo colluded between 2017 and 2020.
The investigation also found that the senior officer allegedly possesses assets disproportionate to his declared income.
