Man runs amok, threatens father-in-law with samurai sword

TAWAU: A man who allegedly threatened his father-in-law with a samurai sword after refusing to let his wife stay overnight at her family home has been arrested.
The incident occurred at 8pm on Sunday in Kampung Pengkalan Asli, Merotai Besar.
Tawau district police chief Assistant Commissioner Jasmin Hussin said the 39-year-old suspect arrived at the victim’s house with his younger brother.
Both men reportedly acted aggressively and ran amok.
He said the suspect was armed with a samurai sword, while his 27-year-old brother was believed to be carrying a parang, causing the 63-year-old victim to fear for his safety.
“The incident is believed to have been triggered when the suspect’s wife expressed her wish to stay overnight at her father’s house. The suspect disagreed, leading to an argument.
“The suspect then went to the victim’s house in a fit of rage and threatened him with the weapons,” Jasmin said in a statement yesterday.
The victim lodged a police report, leading to the arrest of the two brothers at 12.10am yesterday in front of a house in Kampung Merotai Besar.
Investigations revealed the older suspect has a criminal record for criminal intimidation and housebreaking, while the younger brother has no prior records.
The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
