KUALA LUMPUR: The number of people evacuated due to floods nationwide continued to rise, with 9,384 people from 3,362 families displaced as of 11pm.

According to the Welfare Department’s Info Bencana portal, Kelantan continues to be, by far, the worst-hit state with 8,224 people from 3,011 families evacuated, accounting for more than 87 per cent of the total.

They are being housed at 33 temporary evacuation centres (PPS) in four districts — Tumpat, Bachok, Kota Baru and Pasir Puteh.

Apart from Kelantan, the other states affected by floods are Terengganu, Kedah, Penang, Perlis, Sarawak, Selangor and Perak.

Terengganu has 369 evacuees placed at two PPS, while Kedah has 296 people displaced, Penang has 219 victims and Perlis has seen 196 people evacuated.

Sarawak and Selangor have 44 and 26 evacuees, respectively, while Perak has seen 10 people displaced.

Of the total number of victims, 2,877 are men, 3,045 are women, 1,642 are boys and 1,510 are girls. There are also 153 male babies and 157 female babies displaced.
