TASEK GELUGOR: Quick action by firemen saved a man who became trapped atop a rambutan tree more than six metres high after a branch fell on him, preventing him from climbing down in Kampung Air Melintang Besar today.

Penang Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of Fire and Rescue Operations Division John Sagun Francis said the department received an emergency call at 12.36pm, prompting a team from Tasek Gelugor Fire and Rescue Station to rush to the scene.

“The 26-year-old man climbed the rambutan tree to cut a branch, which then fell on him, causing back pain and preventing him from descending,” he said in a statement.

Firefighters used a ladder to bring the man down safely.

He was conscious but sustained a spinal injury and was handed over to a Health Ministry team for further treatment.
