KINABATANGAN – The Lamag state seat will see a six-cornered contest in the upcoming 17th Sabah state election, featuring notable names including Sabah Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.

However, amid the crowded field, two candidates stood out for offering sharply contrasting visions for the constituency, one centred on integrity-driven leadership, the other on economic revitalisation.

For Gabungan Rakyat Sabah candidate Johainizamshah Johari, the election was fundamentally about restoring values in politics.

The former Lamag Community Development Leader said he decided to enter politics on two pillars which were value-based politics and service-based politics.

“I came into politics based on two aspects and pillars. First, value-driven politics and second, politics of service, because I believe the people are waiting for leaders with values.

“Values in terms of integrity, leadership and the ability to solve the people’s issues,” he told Sinar after the nomination process at Dewan Sri Lamag, Kinabatangan on Saturday.

Johainizamshah said Lamag voters deserved the option of choosing leaders with such qualities, expressing confidence that he could secure the seat on that basis.

Meanwhile, Warisan candidate Mohd Saifulah Lokman was pitching himself as the candidate of economic opportunity, especially for young people who have long struggled with unemployment in Lamag.

“I am raising the voice of the youth. I want to bring innovation to Lamag. There are too many young people here without jobs. That is why I am coming forward with my experience, to bring investors into Lamag.

“Besides that, I want to support youth and anyone interested in entrepreneurship to develop industries in every village, such as agriculture-based industries,” said the former flight attendant, now a restaurant owner.

Saifulah believed that if small industries were created across villages, young people will gain stable employment and no longer need to leave the area to make a living.

He remained confident that, if given the chance, he can carry out these responsibilities effectively.

Both candidates will face four others, including Bung Mokhtar, in what was shaping up to be one of the most closely watched six-cornered battles in Sabah state election.
