Court postpones hearing in Juru double murder case

PETALING JAYA: The Bukit Mertajam’s magistrates’ court has postponed proceedings against a Nepali man accused of murdering a woman and her 11-year-old daughter in Kampung Sekolah Juru last month, as he did not understand Bahasa Malaysia and required an interpreter.
The accused, Dinesh Kumar Mandal, 35, was charged with killing Sariya Che Hin, 51, and her adopted daughter Nur Afrina Alisha Abdul Rahim, between 12.30pm and 7.30pm at their home on Oct 18.
Magistrate Nurul Rasyidah Akit set Nov 26 for the appointment of a Nepali interpreter, and did not allow the accused to be released on bail, Berita Harian reported.
The charge was framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty, or 30 to 40 years’ imprisonment and 12 strokes of the cane, if convicted.
Deputy public prosecutors Zulfadli Hassan and Anis Suhada Rosli appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was unrepresented.
