MRT Putrajaya disruption: Cable theft suspected cause, train frequency now 20-30 minutes

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 — The MRT Putrajaya line’s ongoing disruption since this morning is suspected to be due to cable theft near the Kuchai MRT station which is on this line, rail operator Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd has announced.
In a press statement posted on Rapid KL’s Facebook page at 1.36pm, Rapid Rail said it is still investigating the cause for the signalling system disruption at the MRT Putrajaya line, but said it is suspected to be due to theft of communication cables.
“Results of onsite preliminary investigation found that the theft activities happened near Kuchai Station, where piles of cables that have been cut were also found near the station’s area,” it said in the statement.
Rapid Rail said it is now working with rail asset owner MRT Corporation and the police to carry out a comprehensive investigation to curb cable theft activities that had recently happened at several locations along the MRT Putrajaya line and to ensure that these thefts do not recur.
It said Rapid Rail’s technical team is currently working together with experts to carry out comprehensive repair and restoration works to ensure the train operations can be stabilised in the nearest period.
Rapid Rail said the Putrajaya line is still experiencing signalling systems disruption for now, which continues to affect the schedule for trains on this line.

“As a safety measure, trains from Kwasa Damansara station to Putrajaya Sentral station are now operated manually, causing train movements to be slower and to stop longer at each station. The frequency of trains is expected to be between 20 to 30 minutes,” it said.
Free shuttle feeder buses are still available for passengers who have been affected by the MRT Putrajaya line disruption.
Auxiliary police and station personnel have been placed at platforms, lobbies and bus stops at MRT Putrajaya line’s stations to assist passengers, Rapid Rail said.
Rapid Rail encouraged passengers to plan their journey earlier and use alternative transport options to avoid delays.
Rapid Rail said it appreciated the patience of passengers throughout the disruption and apologised for any inconvenience.
