Denying ‘political hunt’, home minister wants answers on how Muhyiddin’s son-in-law travels abroad without Malaysian passport

PUTRAJAYA, Oct 23 — Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail today denied any political motive in the search for Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s son-in-law, wanted in Malaysia for corruption investigations.
The individual, believed to be Datuk Seri Muhammad Adlan Berhan, 49, is wanted by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in connection with alleged misappropriation of funds from a government project on biometric registration for foreign workers.
“This is not a political hunt. It’s about due process and accountability. We leave the investigation to MACC, but we make sure the enforcement side is watertight,” Saifuddin Nasution told reporters at the Home Ministry headquarters here.
He confirmed that the Immigration Department has revoked the man’s Malaysian passport at the MACC’s request.
The minister said authorities are now investigating how the individual continues to travel internationally despite being wanted and without a valid Malaysian passport.

“If he is still travelling abroad, then we have to find out how — whether he’s using another country’s document or an expired one. We will get the full picture soon,” he said.
Saifuddin Nasution said both the Immigration and police are working with the MACC to trace the individual’s movements and verify his location.
“Our job is to ensure the rule of law is upheld. No one is above that, regardless of their political ties or family connections,” he added.
The wanted individual is believed to have left Malaysia on May 17, 2023, and has reportedly been seen in East Asia and the Middle East living an affluent lifestyle.
