DAP leader accuses PAS man of portraying non-Malays, non-Muslims as enemies
DAP vice-chairman Syahredzan Johan said PAS MP Ahmad Marzuk Shaary had no right to question the sincerity of non-Malay and non-Muslim Malaysians for ‘narrow political gain’.

PETALING JAYA: DAP vice-chairman Syahredzan Johan has slammed PAS MP Ahmad Marzuk Shaary for portraying non-Malay and non-Muslim Malaysians as “enemies within” who supposedly harbour malicious intent toward the Malay and Muslim communities.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, Pengkalan Chepa MP Marzuk claimed that non-Malays and non-Muslims were increasingly controlling major sectors in Malaysia, warning that the country could face a situation similar to that of Palestine.

Marzuk claimed that while Jewish immigrants were initially welcomed to Palestine on humanitarian grounds, they gradually took control of the economy, land, and politics – eventually displacing the native population.

“What the PAS leader implied is clear: Malays and Muslims in their own homeland could suffer the same fate as the Palestinians if they are not vigilant,” sad Syahredzan, who is Bangi MP.

“Comparing non-Malay and non-Muslim Malaysians with the actions of Israel against Palestine is excessive and unacceptable.

“PAS is once again reminded that non-Malays and non-Muslims have stood together with Malays and Muslims in building this beloved nation,” he added in a Facebook post.

Syahredzan said Marzuk had no right to question the sincerity of non-Malay and non-Muslim Malaysians for “narrow political gain”, adding it was clear that PAS continues to promote divisive, race-based politics that threaten social cohesion.

“Malaysians who love this multiracial nation are urged to reject such outdated and regressive politics,” he said.

Syahredzan also called for Perikatan Nasional and its allies in the loose coalition known as Ikatan Prihatin Rakyat (IPR) to state their stance on Marzuk’s remarks.

IPR was announced on Oct 14, bringing together leaders from Bersatu, PAS, Gerakan, Pejuang, Putra, Berjasa, Muda, the Malaysian Advancement Party, the National Indian Muslim Alliance Party, the Malaysian Indian People’s Party, and Urimai.
