SHAH ALAM, Oct 15 — The police are working with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to remove photos of the victim and suspect in the recent stabbing case at a secondary school in Bandar Utama.

Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said this was because both individuals are underage, making it illegal to circulate their images under Malaysian law.

“We are working together with partner agencies, for example MCMC, to ensure that photos of the victim and the suspect do not continue to circulate on social media, because both of them are underage,” he told reporters at a press conference here.

MCMC earlier urged the public to act responsibly and refrain from sharing, forwarding or uploading any content, including photos or videos, showing the victim, other students or the location related to the incident.

It advised those who have already uploaded such content to delete it immediately out of respect for the privacy and dignity of the victim’s family, and to avoid disrupting the ongoing police investigation.

MCMC also reminded the public that legal action may be taken against individuals who distribute such content under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588).

Shazeli said the suspect has been remanded for seven days from today until October 22, and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
