Selangor Sultan acknowledges Ambrin Buang’s statement on Kampung Sungai Baru redevelopment
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 5 — The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has been informed and has read the statement issued by former Perbadanan Pembangunan Kampong Bharu (PKB) chairman Tan Sri Ambrin Buang regarding the redevelopment issue in Kampung Sungai Baru.
The Selangor Royal Office said in a Facebook post today that the Sultan had been briefed and had read Ambrin’s media statement dated October 1, 2025.
“His Royal Highness Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj has been briefed and has read the media statement dated October 1, 2025, issued by Tan Sri Ambrin Buang in relation to Kampong Bharu and the development issue in Kampung Sungai Baru.
“Tan Sri Ambrin, who is also a member of the Selangor Royal Council, is a native of Kampong Bharu and previously served as the auditor-general,” the palace said.
The Facebook post also included Ambrin’s statement, in which he said it was the right time for the federal government to address the matter by ensuring the land is gazetted as a Malay Agricultural Settlement (MAS) in line with current circumstances.

He said such a move would safeguard the rights and interests of the Malay community.
“The land’s location is highly strategic and of great value. If it is developed and opened for sale to non-Malays, the Malays will not be able to afford or own it.
“Therefore, in my view, the original intent of the late Sultan Sir Alaeddin Sulaiman Shah Ibni Almarhum Raja Muda Musa to designate the area as a settlement for Malays must be preserved,” he said.
Previously, Sultan Sharafuddin had decreed that redevelopment in Kampung Baru, Kuala Lumpur, must be carried out carefully, with priority given to protecting the interests of the Malay community.
The ruler said he had no objection to modern development in the area, but stressed that any redevelopment plan must have clear conditions that favour and safeguard the rights of the Malays.
