Bersatu leader rejects calls for Wan Saiful’s sacking after attack on Azmin

PETALING JAYA: A Bersatu division leader has rejected calls for party Supreme Council member Wan Saiful Wan Jan to be sacked following his attack on secretary-general Azmin Ali last week.

Pasir Salak Bersatu chief Zainol Fadzi Paharudin said the calls were inappropriate as they pre-empt the disciplinary board’s investigation process.

“I believe the calls involve unsubstantiated accusations and are motivated by vested interests in specific parties,” he said in a statement today.

Zainol said members should submit complaints directly to the party and not air them in public. He said the role of the disciplinary board is to investigate and suggest appropriate actions and not merely mete out punishment.

Wan Saiful had said he would refer Azmin to the party’s disciplinary board over threats he allegedly made against division leaders linked to a supposed plot to oust Muhyiddin Yassin as Bersatu president.

He said he would file a similar complaint against Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz.

The Tasek Gelugor MP also said Azmin was unfit to be a party leader as long as the controversy surrounding a leaked explicit video allegedly of him remains unresolved.

Azmin dismissed Wan Saiful’s claim of “new information” on the video, allegedly of him engaging in homosexual acts.

Zainol also pointed out a potential conflict of interest with Radzi Abdul Manan chairing the disciplinary board. He said Radzi is the father of Supreme Council member Nolee Ashilin and father-in-law of Perak Bersatu chief Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

He suggested that Radzi’s position be reviewed, saying the Supreme Council and disciplinary board must ensure that the integrity of the party is not tarnished and continues to be respected by its members.
