No final decision yet on redeveloping Wisma Damansara, says DBKL

PETALING JAYA: Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) says no final decision has been made yet on the proposal to redevelop Wisma Damansara into two 60-storey towers.
DBKL said it had received the proposed layout plan for a commercial development on three parcels of land covering a total area of 7.98 acres.
It said the proposed development is subject to compliance with technical requirements such as traffic impact assessment, geotechnical study, environmental impact assessment, social impact assessment, and other related technical aspects.
“DBKL is still in the process of reviewing this application and has not yet made a final decision regarding it.
“Any final decision will only be made after a comprehensive engagement and technical evaluation process has been completed,” it said in a statement tonight, adding that compliance with comments and conditions submitted by other technical agencies is also required.

On Saturday, about 300 Bukit Damansara residents, joined by singer Sheila Majid, former CIMB chairman Nazir Razak, former minister Khairy Jamaluddin and activist Ambiga Sreenevasan, gathered to protest against the planned redevelopment of Wisma Damansara.
Holding placards saying “Save Bukit Damansara” and “No to Skyscrapers”, they warned that the project would turn Jalan Semantan into a permanent traffic jam, overwhelm infrastructure, and erase the neighbourhood’s identity.
Khairy, a long-time resident, said DBKL must explain if it had conducted a traffic impact study.
“I believe the Datuk Bandar, who is a town planner at heart, does not want 60-storey buildings here. If this goes ahead, are we going to leave (Bukit) Damansara? No, we are not going anywhere.
“But the last thing we want is to see this place turn into another KLCC,” he said.
