Cop killed as trailer skids and collides with car

IPOH: A police officer was killed and two others were injured in an accident involving two trailer lorries and a car at Km85.3 Jalan Kuala Kangsar-Pengkalan Hulu near Kampung Tawai in Gerik early this morning.

Gerik police chief Abdul Samad Othman said the incident at 1.50am involved a trailer carrying fertiliser, another loaded with logs, and a car driven by the police officer.

Gerik police chief Abdul Samad Othman said the case is being investigated for causing death by reckless driving.

“A preliminary investigation found that the fertiliser-laden trailer, headed from Kuala Kangsar to Gerik, lost control before skidding and colliding with the right side of the log-loaded trailer coming from the opposite direction.

“As a result of the collision, the fertiliser trailer veered into the opposite lane and struck the car driven by the 42-year-old police officer from the Gerik police headquarters,” he said in a statement.

The officer was confirmed dead at the scene.

The case is being investigated for causing death by reckless driving.
