‘Burden of proof is on the accuser’: Pas secretary-general on Hamzah PM candidate rumours

SHAH ALAM – The alleged endorsement of Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin as Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) Prime Minister candidate became the subject of a press conference today, with Pas secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan opting for a non-committal stance.

According to a report by Malaysiakini, Takiyuddin maintained that the person who made the allegation was responsible for providing proof.

He also dismissed the existence of a special meeting for the purpose of nominating Hamzah, stating that it was routine for leaders of PN’s component parties to gather frequently.

“We (Pas) in PN are always meeting with Gerakan, with MIPP and of course with Bersatu. Such meetings are normal.

“In fact, during parliamentary sessions, our Pas president often holds sessions like usrah (Islamic study circles), where all PN MPs would join. So for us, such meetings are a normal thing, not something unusual.

“As for the matter being talked about, whoever is making the accusation, it is their responsibility to prove it. The burden of proof is on the prosecution – the one making the accusation has to answer for it,” he reportedly said.

The viral audio clip had circulated on WhatsApp earlier in the day.

A voice, believed to be that of a Bersatu leader, was heard speaking to a group of people and claiming that Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang had made the offer during a meeting that included top leaders from both parties, as well as Hamzah.
