KOTA KINABALU: Police are probing allegations that a university student uttered seditious remarks against Sabah Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman during the “Justice for Zara” solidarity rally in Tawau on Sunday.

A total of 14 police reports were lodged across Sabah in connection with the allegations by the students.

Tawau district police chief Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin confirmed that as of Monday (Sept 1) a total of six reports were filed at the district headquarters.

He said so far no arrests have been made but police have begun recording statements by witnesses.

“We have four investigation papers opened under the Sedition Act 1948, Penal Code sections on criminal intimidation and public alarm, and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,” he said.

ACP Jasmin, meanwhile, urged the public, including netizens, to avoid making statements that could be sensitive and also pose public order concerns.

On Sunday, thousands had joined the solidarity rally at the Tawau council grounds.
