Fahmi rubbishes claims of external parties influencing Cabinet decisions

KUALA LUMPUR: Cabinet decisions have never been influenced by external parties and are made collectively by the Cabinet alone, says Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

The Communications Minister said that claims of outside influence on the government’s decision-making are unfounded, adding that he has never witnessed such events during his time in the Cabinet.

“I attend almost every Cabinet meeting and I can tell you that no such thing has ever occurred and decisions are collectively made by the Cabinet with no other parties involved.

“Any decisions made by the Cabinet, and even any discussions held, are considered classified as official secrets which if disclosed, would be subjected to the Official Secrets Act (OSA).

“If any party makes such claims, they should lodge a police report so authorities can take action,” he told reporters after launching Prasarana’s Denyut Nadi Merdeka campaign on Saturday (Aug 23).

This comes after former economy minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli claimed in a recent podcast that there had been rumours circulating among those inside and outside of the government, that certain external parties had influence over Cabinet decisions.

Fahmi said he had not watched Rafizi’s podcast nor was he aware of the claim.
