Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) has intensified enforcement against heavy vehicles parked illegally in public areas, carrying out back-to-back operations this month with the support of multiple enforcement agencies.

From Aug 11 to 17, MPAJ’s enforcement unit conducted inspections across its administrative area, issuing three compounds under Section 48(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

“The offences involved heavy vehicles parked at unauthorised spots that disrupted traffic flow and posed safety hazards to the public,” MPAJ said in a media statement.

Under the Act, any driver who leaves a vehicle on the road in a position, condition or situation that may cause danger, obstruction or unreasonable inconvenience to other road users is committing an offence.

Upon conviction, the driver may be fined between RM1,000 and RM5,000, sentenced to at least one year in prison, or face both penalties.

The crackdown continued on Aug 19 with a joint operation targeting 13 hotspots in Ampang Jaya.

MPAJ worked together with the Ampang Jaya Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPT), the Selangor Road Transport Department (JPJ) and JPJ Kuala Lumpur.

The integrated operation saw seven officers and 18 enforcement personnel from various agencies taking part.

A total of 204 compounds were issued – 43 by MPAJ, 115 by JPJ, and 46 by BSPT.

The compounds covered a range of offences related to heavy vehicle parking and placement in public areas.

Pandan Perdana resident Mohd Aidid Mohd Raufi, 46, said such enforcement was needed more frequently, especially around construction sites.

“I have noticed that these heavy vehicles, such as excavators, are parked near building sites and disrupt traffic on the narrow roads.

“When I approach the drivers to ask them to move the vehicles, they sometimes ignore the request or say they are only there temporarily,” he said.

According to Mohd Aidid, the lack of consideration not only inconveniences road users but also poses risks to motorists and pedestrians.

MPAJ stressed that enforcement would be carried out on a scheduled and coordinated basis to maintain public safety and smooth traffic flow besides safeguarding the well-being of residents.

The local council also encouraged residents to channel complaints through its Public Complaints Management System (Sispaa) at mpaj.spab.gov.my or via its toll-free line at 1-800-22-8100. ― By SHALINI RAVINDRAN
