JOHOR BARU: The Immigration Department has detained 35 foreigners for working without valid permits at various shops in the area.

State Immigration Director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said the suspects, aged 18 to 55, were apprehended on Tuesday (July 15).

“We conducted the raids based on public tip-offs about undocumented foreigners working at the premises.

“Those detained included individuals from Indonesia, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Thailand, India, and Afghanistan. Six of them are Indonesian women,” he said in a statement on Thursday (July 17).

He said the department also issued notices to five Malaysians to assist with investigations.

He added that the foreign suspects were taken to the Immigration depot at Setia Tropika for investigations, including entering Malaysia without a valid pass or permit, overstaying, and abusing their social visit pass.
