PETALING JAYA: The 13 Selayang PKR Youth wing committee members who resigned recently had done so in solidarity with their defeated associates in the last division elections, PKR Youth deputy chief Izuan Kasim said.

He said he was informed of this at a two-hour meeting with the division’s committee and members of the central PKR Youth leadership on Thursday.

“The meeting was held as a platform for the committee members to voice their opinions,” he said.

He said the outcome of the meeting, as well as claims that the wing has been dissolved, will also be discussed at a coming meeting of the central leadership.

“It is too early to say that the Selayang PKR Youth wing is officially dissolved. Any dissolution must be confirmed by the central PKR Youth leadership,” he said.

It was reported that among those who resigned were the wing’s deputy chief, Amir Sahmat, and vice-chief, Lee Fook Onn.

Amir had said the resignations were triggered by dissatisfaction over the April 12 youth wing elections, where Tamilarasu Thamil Kalai was declared the division’s youth chief.

Although there have been claims that the resignations will trigger the wing’s dissolution, PKR Youth secretary Omar Mokhtar A Manap emphasised that the wing has not been undissolved.

Party secretary-general Fuziah Salleh also dismissed the claims, saying that at least two-thirds, or 18 of the 26 committee members, must resign for the wing to be considered dissolved.

“The total number of elected members is 18, and an additional eight may be appointed, making a maximum of 26. To meet the two-thirds threshold, at least 18 members must resign, Fuziah had said in a statement.
