Anwar stays mum on appointment of new IGP

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has declined to comment on the name of the new candidate for Inspector-General of Police (IGP), which is reportedly set to be presented to His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.
The Prime Minister appeared momentarily surprised when asked about the matter during a press conference Thursday (June 19).
“Oh? The palace informed you? Who told you that? I will ask the King first, okay?” he replied briefly when asked after attending a closed-door meeting with Johor PKR leaders and members in Medini here.
Earlier, a media outlet reported that Anwar was scheduled to have an audience with the King on Thursday to submit the name of the candidate to replace the current IGP Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.
Razarudin is set to retire on June 22 after serving two years as the country’s top cop.
