Amanah can win more than 10 Kelantan state seats, says Mat Sabu

PETALING JAYA: Amanah can win more than 10 state seats in Kelantan – a PAS stronghold – in the next general election, party president Mohamad Sabu said, citing the increasing support from local residents.

Mohamad, better known as Mat Sabu, said his confidence in Amanah’s potential stems from the party’s unity and the prospect of effective seat distribution, Bernama reported.

He said while the likes of Umno and PAS – two of the country’s largest Malay-Muslim parties – made it challenging for Amanah, it should leverage on the fact that Perikatan Nasional is no longer in control of Putrajaya.

“When PN was the federal government, they ran a very strong campaign.

“This time, they are no longer in power. I believe the votes will shift in the next election,” he was quoted as saying at the 2024 Amanah national convention here today.

In the state elections in August 2023, PN won 43 of the 45 seats in Kelantan. The remaining two were won by Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan.

PH was represented by Dr Hafidzah Mustaqim of Amanah.

In the last general election, PN made a clean sweep of the east coast state, winning all 14 parliamentary seats, and maintained PAS’s 32-year rule of Kelantan.
